  • The story of MPTP and parkinsonism, by the physician who identified the clinical syndrome and the toxin. Notes that MPTP had been available for many years from Aldrich Chemical Company, selling for $11 in 1982. However, after the hullaballoo about MPTP in parkinsonism began, Aldrich raised the proce to $9500! [102]
  • MPTP is a byproduct of meperidine synthesis. This letter reports a case of reversible parkinsonism resulting from administration of meperidine to control post-operative pain. The authors postulate that the meperidine was somehow metabolized to an MPTP-like substance. No doubt there has been more written about such patients. [103]
