  • Found that 30 of 31 consecutive pleural effusions with lymphocytic predominance were due to tuberculosis or a malignant tumor. This is interesting, because it is the inverse of the observation that eosinophils in an effusion reduce the likelihood it is tuberculous or malignant. Of course, effusions detected in 1973 were probably larger, hence different, than effusions discovered in the ultrasonography era. [102]
