  • Dr. Katy Godfrey of Auckland, New Zealand points out that aortic regurgitation and general paresis of the insane are both manifestations of tertiary syphilis [personal communication, 12 March 1998]. Thus, Osler may have been referring to a syphilis sub-syndrome. [101]
