  • Death of a chemistry professor after exposure of a gloved hand to 0.11 ml of dimethylmercury, despite heroic treatment starting when symptoms appeared. [106]
  • Editorial on the chemistry professor's case. [107]
  • A nice little review containing some new syndromes: toothpick eating, licking the dust off venetian blinds, and even eating cigarette ashes. (The cigarette-eating patient was a nonsmoker, and craved ashes specifically from Salem cigarettes. She got her smoker-husband to switch his brand to Salems, and would burn down cigarettes just to get the ashes.) Also notes that iron supplementation relieves cravings rapidly, even before correction of the anemia. [109]
  • Some people lick golf balls -- much to the detriment of their liver. [111]
